What's really happening in a panic attack

A panic attack is a surge of adrenaline, a racing heart, tight chest, dizziness, the certainty that something awful is about to happen. It feels physical and frightening, but at its core it's a false alarm: your nervous system reacting to a perceived threat that isn't actually there. Your body isn't broken. It has simply learned to sound the alarm too easily, and that pattern can be unlearned.
